How To Tell If You Need New Tyres
There are some early warning signs you should know and look out for that tell you your car needs new tyres. Before you hop in to drive, do a quick visual inspection to keep on top of it.
Bulges, gouges or cracks
When a tyre begins to deflate, it will bulge at the sides. If you see any bulges, it’s a sign your tyre is slowly deflating from a slow puncture.
If you spot any gouges or cracks, this is the culprit. If it’s safe to do so, bring your car into our garage and we’ll see if it can be repaired. If it can’t we have fantastic deals on new tyres.
Tread wear
You’ve probably heard of the old-school test for checking the tread on your tyres. Take a 20p coin and slot it into the groove of your tread. If you can’t see the outer band of the coin, your tread is fine. But if you can still see that outer band, your tyre tread isn’t roadworthy.
If you’re unsure whether your tread is too worn, bring your car in for a free check. We’ll give you our honest advice and let you know if your tyres need replacing. If they don’t, we’ll let you know and tell you how long you have until you should bring it back in.
Tire pressure
Your tyres lose pressure by around one pound per square inch (PSI) per month. Once a month, check your tyre pressure to make sure it’s not too low. There are stations in most petrol stations you can use that cost around 50p.
If your tyre pressure drops rapidly every month, it’s a sign of a slow puncture – bring it in for a check.
Vibration
Can you feel vibration or thumping when you drive? It will feel like it’s coming from under your seat and can be the tyres are out of balance. It can also be a sign of suspension issues, so will need to be checked by our team.
We can check your wheel alignment, suspension, and more and let you know what the problem is.
